The farm and the flowers support vast numbers of pollinators and insects that come to feed on the nectar and pollen. By buying Bluma’s flowers you are supporting local, sustainable agriculture and helping to preserve biodiversity!

By selling flowers owner and operator Joanna Letz hopes to bring the abundance and beauty of flowers to everyone.

Joanna is part of the emerging “slow flower movement,” that is taking shape across the U.S. Joanna is also part of “urban- edge” farming. Bluma is uniquely located at the Sunol Ag Park in Sunol, CA. The Ag Park is in Alameda County just 30 miles South East of Oakland, California where Joanna was born and raised. The land, a total of 18 acres, is owned by the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) and is leased by the non-profit, SAGE (Sustainable Agriculture Education). SAGE leases the land to farmers. Currently the Ag Park is home to eight farmers including Bluma. SAGE’s Executive Director, Sibella Kraus also started CUESA which runs the SF Ferry Plaza Farmers Market. The land is also home to the Sunol Water Temple.

Bluma Farm grows flowers on 1 acre at the Ag Park. In Joanna’s first season she plans on growing over sixty different varieties of flowers with an attempt to see what grows best in the specific Micro-climate of the Sunol Ag Park. Joanna loves plants and is excited to be growing so many different types of plants and flowers. Joanna will be offering flowers of all shapes, sizes, textures and colors to create unusual, attractive, and enjoyable flowers and bouquets.

Bluma is committed to growing quality sustainably grown flowers. Bluma Farm practices sustainable and ecological farming.  Bluma is committed to farming with social justice in mind.

In starting Bluma Farm, owner and farmer Joanna Letz hopes to bring local sustainably grown flowers into more people’s lives. Often people think of flowers as something for special occasions but Joanna hopes to bring flowers into people’s lives not just as a celebration of a specific event but also a weekly invitation to enjoy flowers in the home or workplace.
